We host a fundraiser entitled Uncorked on Canvas. This event is held twice a year to provide funds for supplies, art activities and numerous community art projects. No art knowledge is needed, only a desire to learn. Tickets are sold for this event and they go fast. We have and will continue to do various art projects that we decide to do or that are presented to the club for consideration i.e. art wall in the lodge conference room, mural on the beach house, and rain barrel for the zoo. With a goal of beautifying the lake through art, the club has been given approval to display art work at Little Turtle. We will add beauty to this area by adding sculptures, art pieces, and memorial stones. These pieces will be a combination of handmade and commercial art work. All fitting into a nature/lake theme. Members will work with different art mediums to create this artwork. It is our goal to be able to install and pay for this project without WPOA funds. We would accomplish this through the club’s treasury or with donations from individuals or other clubs/organizations. We welcome the community to become club members and help us with this project. In December, we host a free Christmas painting party for adults. For children, we offer children’s art activities during Waynoka Day and Beach Day. We are creating sculpture and a natural playground at Little Turtle called Destination Park, with help from the garden club and the community. |

History | ||||||||||||||||||
In April 1970, Lake Waynoka was started by American Realty (Lake Waynoka, Inc.). A campground and a large sales force were established over five states to encourage campers and future residents to come to Lake Waynoka. The civic club was formed to encourage communication between the developer and the property owners. In 1975, the lake development was 95% complete and the developer filed for bankruptcy. A board of trustees was formed in 1976, the Waynoka Development Corporation (NACO) purchased and proposed to finish sales and install water lines. The trustees represented the property owner’s option to purchase the water plant. In 1979 the new code of regulation was revised. In 1985, Tim O’Farrell was hired as manager. In 1986, the lodge was remodeled the first time since it was built in 1977. The lounge was separated from the lodge. The need for a Civic Club arose when the property owners needed a forum to express concerns, hopes, fears, and ideas during the time American Realty Company was developing Lake Waynoka in 1974. In 1977 the club presented the first flag to the WPOA, and sponsored the first Waynoka Day. The club has had a proud history of volunteer tasks to improve, maintain and beautify the community. In 1985, the club compiled a 183-name telephone directory. Today, the phone book has about 730 entries and is being produced by the WPOA. The club continues to do volunteer community tasks such as painting the lodge exterior, planted flowers and shrubs in the past to current day tasks such as the annual community garage sale. The club participated in the Needy Family Program in the late 1980’s, and sponsored a sunshine committee to support all members of the lake. The club made purchases to benefit Lake Waynoka such as chairs for the lodge, shared cost of marina lighting, repair and paint cannons at the front entrance, window blinds for the lodge and Christmas lighting at the front entrance. Today we have 37 members who continue to serve the community. |

We volunteer community tasks, and continue to sell Lake Waynoka clothing (sweat shirts, t-shirts, hates, etc.) to promote community pride. We provide donations to other club activities such as the annual fireworks, the children’s Christmas fund and fireman’s fund donations. The club is currently sponsoring an annual calendar to post club, committee and special events dates. The calendar is supported by the community and local businesses. |

In addition to reading and discussing books, the club may schedule an outing related to a book, invite a guest speaker, or watch a movie in the lodge. The Book Club has a booth at the Beach Day and Waynoka Day events to promote reading. Fundraising is not a major activity for the club, however, the club may schedule activities to support the Eastern Brown School Scholarship Fund which was established in 2020. The club maintains the library in the lodge where members restock and label the books by genre. |
